Earlier this year, the Outback Wilderness splashed onto the scene, awing adventure lovers with its enhanced capabilities and rugged looks.

Now, the Subaru Wilderness family has grown with the introduction of the 2022 Forester Wilderness.

This all-new vehicle is packed with everything you love about the Forester – including a Boxer Engine and legendary Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive – but with even more capabilities to get you farther than you could ever go before.

If you follow overlanding hashtags on Instagram, you know that the Forester has been an overlanding favorite for years. Forester enthusiasts have extended the range of where their vehicles can travel. Now, the Forester Wilderness takes that enthusiasm as inspiration and adds exclusive features that the most seasoned builders would be challenged to produce.

It starts with taller ground clearance. Every trim of the Forester gets over obstacles with ground clearance that beats almost every rival in its class, but the Forester Wilderness jacks it up to 9.2 inches with longer coil springs and shocks. They not only add one-half inch of clearance to pass over rocks and roots in the trail, but they’re specially tuned to maintain exceptional road-handling qualities when you’re driving on the pavement.

Overlanders are also adamant about using their vehicles as a base for rooftop camping. The Forester Wilderness overshoots that requirement with 800 pounds of static roof capacity when you’re set up to camp, accommodating even the most spacious and robust rooftop tents1 on the market.

To help get you to your most remote locations, the Forester Wilderness is equipped with the same tires as the Outback Wilderness: Yokohama® Geolandar® all-terrain tires, built for increased traction on muddy inclines and shouldered with heavy lugs to avoid sidewall punctures. Yet, with all their trail capability, they’re quiet on the long highway transits between your remote locations. Those tires are mounted on exclusive matte black 17-inch alloy wheels.

The Forester Wilderness has all the outdoor-ready equipment of the Forester Premium, including a standard All-Weather Package with heated front seats, heated mirrors and a windshield wiper de-icer.

It also comes with X-MODE® with Hill Descent Control, allowing you to focus on steering around obstacles while the Forester Wilderness manages braking down steep declines.

Inside and outside, the Forester Wilderness signals its exclusivity with unique visual and tactile features. The bold hexagonal front grille, larger wheel arch cladding, front skid plate, unique hexagonal LED fog lights and an anti-glare hood decal in matte black finish are all Subaru Wilderness family exclusives.

Inside, the Forester Wilderness gets water-resistant StarTex® seating surfaces, making the Forester Wilderness especially suited to hauling your wet, muddy outdoor gear.

There’s a single option package that includes the SUBARU STARLINK® 8.0-inch Multimedia Navigation system,2 Harman Kardon® 3 premium sound system and a Power Rear Gate at an MSRP of $1,850.

The MSRP of the Forester Wilderness is $32,820,4 offering class-leading value along with its off-road excellence.

Aggressive Styling

The Forester Wilderness fascia is redesigned and contains trim-exclusive features like the bold hexagonal grille and fog lights, a front skid plate, more protective cladding on the wheel openings, and an anti-glare decal on the hood.

StarTex Upholstery

After tearing through the woods on a mountain bike, the last thing you want to do is trash your cloth or leather interior with your muddy gear. StarTex® seating surfaces repel water and mud, keeping the Forester Wilderness comfortable even after your adventure is over.

Shocks and Springs

With longer coil springs and shocks, the Forester Wilderness achieves that higher ground clearance without sacrificing its outstanding road manners.

Rooftop Tent Ready

The Forester Wilderness has a 220-pound dynamic load capacity (the weight it can carry at speed) and adds an up to 800-pound static capacity – plenty to support a tent, occupants and gear when parked at the campsite.1

A ladder extends from the tent to the dirt on the left and three rainfly coverings on the tent are up, one on each side and one on the front.

Ground Clearance

All 2022 Subaru Forester models have tall ground clearance for stepping over obstacles, but the Forester Wilderness goes one better with 9.2 inches – a half-inch advantage over any other Forester trim.

X-MODE With Hill Descent Control

Making the most of the SUBARU BOXER® engine’s power and the grip provided by legendary Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, X-MODE helps to maximize available traction, while Hill Descent Control manages the brakes on slippery descents.

Full-Size Spare Tire

The Forester Wilderness features a matching full-size spare tire stashed under the cargo area. In the event of a puncture, the spare will get you home with confidence.
