For the first time, automotive accessory manufacturer Thule has named its Road Trip Vehicles of the Year. The Under $30,000 2008 Thule Road Trip Vehicle of the Year award goes to the Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited.

In choosing its Vehicle of the Year winners, Thule looked for ones that combined “utility, gas mileage, safety, conveniences, and excitement for a family of four going on the great American road trip.” Determining the winners involved using a point system based on 10 criteria, which included styling, storage, gas mileage, size, cost, number of cup holders and speakers, warranty, entertainment, safety, and comfort. Extra points were awarded to vehicles with all-wheel drive.
